QA Lead

Location: York, England

Hours: Full Time

As part of the R&D organisation, the QA lead is an integral role and will oversee the quality of all of our products. A major part of this role is driving the test automation strategy. Working within one of the scrum teams, part of your working week you will be hands on applying the automation strategy, while helping to mentor and guide the teams regarding QA best practice. As we make the shift to Azure, you will be at the forefront of this transition, giving you the opportunity to help define and shape Star’s cloud testing strategy. You will work with the Software Architect, Data Architect and wider team to implement the testing tooling and processes. At Star we have 9 Communities of Practice (COP) which span from Data, QA, server-side engineering to DevOps, API and Architecture. As QA lead you will also be the lead of the QA Community of Practice. Star has a culture of continuous learning and improvement. We invest heavily in training of our R&D team through Pluralsight and industry-relevant certifications.

 

Responsibilities 
  • Drive QA automation strategy across R&D
  • Lead QA Community of Practice
  • Ensure testing is automated within the CI/CD pipeline using Azure DevOps 
  • Mentor and upskill other members of the R&D organisation in QA automation
  • Evaluate, recommend and implement automated tooling and best practices 
  • Use metrics to gain insights into our quality process and produce action-plans accordingly
  • As a Scrum team member, work with the team to implement the QA automation strategy
  • Play a key role in all Agile ceremonies with particular input into backlog refinement and estimations 
  • As we continue to grow our teams you may be asked to buddy with new starters 

Mandatory Skills, Knowledge or Experience
  • A proven track record automating the testing of large-scale, enterprise level solutions in a commercial environment 
  • Hands-on experience with automation testing tools, such as Selenium, JMeter, TestComplete
  • Strong interpersonal skills, working with internal technical staff and stakeholders 
  • Strong analytical and problem resolution skills 
  • Passion for, and experience of investigating new technologies
  • Coaching and mentoring
 
Desirable Skills or Experience
  • Relevant testing certifications e.g ISTQB
  • Experience of Agile & Scrum 
  • Experience of integrating automated tests within a CI/CD pipeline
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps would be greatly beneficial
  • Experience defining, implementing or supporting software in financial services industry preferred
