As part of the R&D organisation, the Data Architect is an integral role and will drive future data architectural decisions, including a Cloud data strategy, data warehouse modernisation and data delivery platform. Working outside of the scrum teams, the Data Architect helps mentor and guide the teams regarding data design and architecture, Cloud technologies, and ensures relevant industry best practices, processes and technologies are utilised.  Acting as an SME for data they possess Deep Technical Hands on Expertise within a wide range of data related technologies. They should take ownership of their professional development and continually update their technical knowledge and skills by means of peer knowledge transfer, internal and online resources and attending industry meetups.

Responsibilities 
  • Drive future architectural decisions and develop a Cloud data strategy
  • Work with the product teams to design and implement modern, scalable data solutions using a range of new and emerging technologies driving innovation in the data space
  • Apply your multi-cloud data architecture expertise while presenting Star's technology and vision to executives and technical contributors at strategic prospects, customers, and partners
  • Work with Agile and DevOps techniques and implementation approaches
  • Contribute to the creation of reference architectures, blueprints, best practices, etc. based on field experience to continue to up-level and enable our internal stakeholders
  • Provide support and technical governance, expertise related to Cloud architectures, deployment, and operations
  • Mentor and upskill other members of the R&D organisation in data architecture
  • Lead and mentor individuals in data design and architecture
  • Partner with the marketing team to spread awareness and support pipeline building via customer roundtables, conferences, events, blogs, webinars, and whitepapers
  • Develop solutions architecture and evaluate architectural alternatives for private, public and hybrid Cloud models, including IaaS, PaaS, and other Cloud services
  • Provide support and technical governance, expertise related to Cloud architectures, deployment, and operations
  • Create and maintain technical documentation using defined technical documentation templates
  • Ensure agreed upon development processes, procedures and best practices are adopted and followed.
  • Identify, communicate and help mitigate risks.
  • Identify, promote, implement and adopt relevant industry best practices, processes and technologies.
Mandatory Skills, Knowledge or Experience
  • Deep technical hands on expertise within one or more of the following (preferably with several): Data Warehouse Modernization / Migrations, Data Science, Data Lakes, Data Engineering, Data Applications, Data Mesh
  • Demonstrable experience using Cloud data technologies to architect and develop enterprise Data platforms particularly with Microsoft Azure: pipelines, data catalogues, containerisation, and other techniques to ensure governance and repeatability with data usage.
  • Experience designing and developing data privacy, security and entitlements frameworks for Cloud provider ecosystems (AWS, Azure, GCP).
  • Ideally Cloud architect/data architect certifications (AWS, GPC, Azure).
  • Solid experience/knowledge of an enterprise level relational database management system (SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL, etc.)
  • Experience with NoSQL modern data stores
  • Experience of aligning data architecture & strategy across multiple programmes, work streams and business units.
  • Experience of introducing and governing data architecture principles and standards.
  • Experience of working with a version control system such as TFS, Git, CVS, etc.
  • Developing reporting and analysis solutions in an effective and efficient manner
  • Knowledge of Javascript, Python, and / or other scripting languages
  • Pragmatism to work with resources available – people, technologies and budgets – to build class-leading data systems.
  • Comes from a complex data environment – with knowledge of integrating many different types and sources of data.
  • Experience of Agile & Scrum
  • Outstanding presentation skills to both technical and executive audiences, whether impromptu on a whiteboard or using presentations and demos

  • Experience of working with colleagues in a different time zone preferred
  • 5+ years of architecture experience within the enterprise data space
  • Ideally a graduate of a science-based subject, although significant experience of coding practices and languages is an acceptable alternative
  • A proven track record developing large-scale, enterprise level applications in a commercial environment
