Data Architect

Location: York, England and Rockville, MD

Hours: Full Time

As part of the R&D organisation, the Data Architect is an integral role and will drive future data architectural decisions, including a Cloud data strategy, data warehouse modernisation and data delivery platform. 

Working outside of the scrum teams, the Data Architect helps mentor and guide the teams regarding data design and architecture, Cloud technologies, and ensures relevant industry best practices, processes and technologies are utilised. 

Acting as an SME for data they possess deep technical hands-on expertise within a wide range of data related technologies. 

At Star we have 9 Communities of Practice (CoP) which span from Data, server-side engineering to DevOps, API and Architecture. You will be a key member of the Data CoP, learn from and contribute to all CoPs you join, and will have opportunities to apply your learnings day-to-day.

  • Drive future architectural decisions and develop a Cloud data strategy
  • Work with the product teams to design and implement modern, scalable data solutions using a range of new and emerging technologies driving innovation in the data space
  • Contribute to the creation of reference architectures and blueprints
  • Mentor and upskill other members of the R&D organisation in data architecture
  • Partner with the marketing team to spread awareness and support pipeline building via customer round tables, conferences, events, blogs, webinars, and whitepapers
  • Identify, promote, implement and adopt relevant industry best practices, processes and technologies

Mandatory Skills and Experience
  • Demonstrable hands-on experience using Cloud data technologies to architect and develop enterprise data platforms
  • In-depth understanding of security, data governance and privacy requirements
  • Solid experience/knowledge of an enterprise level relational database management system (e.g. SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL)
  • Experience of aligning data architecture & strategy across multiple programs, work streams and business units.
  • Good understanding of the various data models and their applications
  • Hands on, full-stack BI development experience
  • Outstanding presentation skills to both technical and executive audiences, whether impromptu on a whiteboard or using presentations and demos
  • Ability to investigate, evaluate and implement new technologies, tools and techniques
Desirable Skills and Experience
  • Prior experience working in a high-growth product company
  • Experience of Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning
  • Ideally Cloud architect/data architect certifications (AWS, GPC, Azure).
  • Experience with NoSQL modern data stores
  • Experience of scripting (e.g. PowerShell or Python)
  • Experience of Agile & Scrum
  • Experience defining, implementing or supporting software in financial services industry
